Background

Kelington Group Bhd has won a big contract worth RM414 million (about ₹876 crore) for a semiconductor project in Gujarat, showing an important step in India’s growing chip industry.

The Malaysia-based company will build a gas distribution system for a semiconductor plant. This system is very important because chip production needs a steady flow of high-quality gases to work properly and avoid errors.

The contract was given by an unnamed semiconductor company in India. Work has already started after Kelington’s Singapore unit received the order in March. The project is expected to be completed by July 2028.

This project is being developed at a time when India is actively pushing its semiconductor production through its semiconductor mission, supported by major investments and incentives. Through government support and investments, the country wants to reduce its dependence on imported chips and become a global manufacturing hub.

This new contract takes Kelington’s total project value in Gujarat to about USD 115.4 million, including earlier orders for gas purifiers.

The deal also shows that more global companies are interested in India’s semiconductor industry, as the country aims to grow its role in the global electronics market.
