Maharashtra and Gujarat have reached notable achievements in renewable energy capacity, with installations amounting to 17,879.62 megawatts (MW) and 28,405.91 MW respectively, as of June 30, 2024. According to data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), these advancements have been predominantly driven by private sector developers who have independently secured financing for their projects.
The MNRE has been instrumental in supporting state-level initiatives through Central Financial Assistance (CFA), as part of various government schemes and programs. From the financial years 2014-15 to 2023-24, substantial funds have been allocated to strengthen renewable energy initiatives in these states. Maharashtra received ₹1,656.15 crore, while Gujarat was allocated ₹4,490.24 crore. However, the Ministry does not maintain specific data regarding the distribution of these funds at the city level within each state.
In response to an inquiry from Pune Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni, the Ministry of Coal has identified two locations in Madhya Pradesh for the development of Green Ammonia Plants. These sites are located at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in the Johilla Area and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in the Pench Area, specifically at Jamunia Pathar Village, Parasea Tehsil of Chhindwara District.
The establishment of these Green Ammonia Plants represents a strategic move towards sustainable energy solutions, aligning with India’s broader objectives to enhance its green energy infrastructure. The collaborative efforts of various ministries, along with the proactive engagement of private sector developers, underscore India’s commitment to advancing a greener, more sustainable future.
