NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gujarat government to develop large-scale renewable energy projects in the State. The agreement aims to set up solar, wind, hybrid and battery energy storage projects with a total investment potential of about ₹25,000 crore.

The MoU was signed at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Rajkot on Tuesday. Devendra Pratap Singh, Executive Director (Projects and Business Development) and CEO of NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), signed the agreement on behalf of NLCIL, while Bhakthi Shamal, Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Energy and Petrochemicals Department, represented the State government. The event was attended by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.

As per the agreement, the proposed projects will be developed through NIRL, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of NLCIL. The MoU is not legally binding, but it clearly sets out a plan for future cooperation between the company and the State.

Under the pact, the Gujarat government will assist NLCIL and NIRL in getting all required approvals, clearances and registrations. The State will also offer support in line with its existing renewable energy policies to ensure the timely execution of the projects.

The partnership fits into NLCIL’s long-term plan to build 10 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The company said the move shows its focus on clean energy, energy security, and reducing carbon emissions.

The upcoming projects are expected to create many job opportunities and strengthen Gujarat’s role as a renewable energy leader.
