Key Background

Suzlon Energy, India’s leading renewable energy solutions company, has won a record order of 1,166 MW wind power from NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the green energy business of NTPC Ltd. The order is the largest historic order in the Indian wind power industry and establishes Suzlon as a market leader in the renewable energy industry.

Suzlon will commission and deliver 370 of its new S144 wind turbine generators, with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW each. They are located at three sites in Gujarat. Two of the facilities commissioned by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd and third facility with IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd., joint venture in clean growth.

The project would be fully commissioned by February 2026 and the first phase commissioned by December 2025. Suzlon would carry out end-to-end project work including turbine supply, erection, commissioning, and a 10-year total operations and maintenance agreement. The project would take India one giant leap towards its clean energy vision with the capacity to power nearly three million homes annually.

It is also the strategic re-entry of Suzlon into the public sector customer base with greater competitiveness and confidence in the expanding clean energy-focused marketplace. It is part of NTPC’s corporate vision to attain 60 GW of renewable power capacity by 2032. Moreover, the transaction is aligned with the “Make in India” policy of the government of India because Suzlon turbines are made locally.

Overall, this achievement positions Suzlon as India’s green revolution leader and sets a precedent for scale and reach for upcoming clean energy initiatives of the country.
