Suzuki Motor Corporation (Suzuki) has formally concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and Banas Dairy to establish its fifth biogas production plant in Gujarat. This agreement marks a significant step in advancing Suzuki’s rural mobility service initiative, which aims to enhance clean and affordable transportation options in rural areas through biogas fuel for Maruti Suzuki’s CNG vehicles.
The MoU signing ceremony took place on Friday at the Banas Dairy Sanadar Plant in Banaskantha district, Gujarat. Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy, Meenesh Shah, Chairman of NDDB, and Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki, attended the event. Approximately 2,500 local dairy farmers also participated in the ceremony, highlighting the community’s involvement in this initiative.
Under this agreement, Suzuki and its partners will develop four biogas production plants in the Banaskantha district, with the latest agreement focused on the construction of a fifth plant in Tharad, also within the Banaskantha district. This initiative aligns with Suzuki’s broader goal of promoting sustainable rural mobility by leveraging biogas as a renewable energy source for its CNG vehicles.
The rural mobility service is designed to offer residents in rural areas access to clean and cost-effective transportation options. Initially, the service will be rolled out in the Banaskantha district, with future expansion plans contingent on the success of the pilot phase.
Toshihiro Suzuki emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, stating, “By partnering with Banas Dairy and NDDB, we are launching two new ventures: the biogas production plant and the rural mobility service. Each partner will contribute innovative ideas to develop a new lifestyle model and foster the growth of Banaskantha district.”
This agreement reflects Suzuki’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices into its operations while simultaneously supporting rural development and mobility. The collaboration is expected to bring significant benefits to the local community, including environmental improvements and enhanced transportation infrastructure.
The establishment of the biogas production plant and the rural mobility service underscores Suzuki’s dedication to advancing clean energy solutions and improving the quality of life for rural populations in India.
