Background:
Essar Future Energy Limited on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government to set up a large-scale bio-fuel complex in Devbhumi Dwarka district with an investment of ₹5,100 crore. The agreement was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Rajkot.
According to the company, the project will process one million tonnes of feedstock per year in its initial phase. Essar said the complex would create around 350 direct jobs and is expected to begin operations by 2029.
The company plans to develop the project as a Special Economic Zone unit. It will focus on producing clean fuels for hard-to-cut pollution sectors such as aviation, shipping and road transport. Essar said the facility will support India’s push to reduce carbon emissions while building a strong bio-energy network in Gujarat.
Essar Future Energy Limited Chief Executive Officer Vibhav Agarwal said the project matches the state’s aim to build a green energy system and achieve energy independence. He added that Gujarat continues to lead the country in industrial growth and clean energy transition. He said Essar is proud to partner with the state to create future-ready and low-carbon fuel solutions.
The MoU was signed in the presence of state ministers Rushikesh Patel and Kaushik Vekaria, along with senior officials from the Energy and Petrochemicals Department.
The state government said the project will boost development in the Devbhumi Dwarka region by creating jobs and attracting more investment in the clean energy sector. It also supports the vision of Viksit Gujarat–Viksit Bharat @2047.
With this project, Essar strengthens its presence in the renewable energy space and adds momentum to Gujarat’s plan to become a national hub for bio-fuels and green energy solutions.
