Background

The Gujarat government will provide new piped natural gas connections to various commercial and institutional facilities, including hotels, hostels and educational institutions. The government will do this in locations where the city’s gas distribution network operates. The decision was made following high-profile review meetings held in Ahmedabad under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The official announcement states that restaurants, hotels, educational institutions, and socio-religious organizations will receive backup power through new PNG connections, as long as the required pipeline infrastructure is present in their area. The decision aims to keep a steady supply for institutions that depend heavily on cooking gas for daily operations.

In the meeting, after reviewing the availability of natural gas and petroleum products in the state, authorities stated that Gujarat has sufficient natural gas supply for households already connected to PNG pipelines. It has been assured by the state government that LPG and PNG have had ample stocks for home usage in the state.

Officials said the state government and central authorities are monitoring supply chains to maintain continuous distribution of cooking fuel. The authorities conduct regular assessments to prevent shortages while maintaining a stable supply throughout Gujarat.

The initiative will provide benefits to both the hospitality industry and educational institutions, which rely on cooking gas for their large-scale food preparation needs. Institutions will benefit from expanded PNG access, which will enable them to replace LPG cylinders with piped gas systems that offer improved safety and operational convenience for their bulk requirements.

The Gujarat government plans to enhance energy access for businesses and institutions by establishing new energy connections through existing infrastructure, which will not disrupt domestic fuel supply to residential consumers.
