IIFT Receives Approval to Launch Off Campus Centre at Gift City

Key Background

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), a premier public business school and an independent constituent body of Department of Commerce, Government of India, was established in 1963. With its permanent campus at New Delhi and two more at Kolkata and Kakinada, IIFT runs several programmes beginning from its flagship programme MBA International Business, MA in Economics with specialisations in trade and finance, and executive and Ph.D. programmes. IIFT is internationally and nationally recognized for academic merit in international trade education and enjoys the accreditation of institutions such as AACSB and NAAC.

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or GIFT City, is India’s first operational greenfield smart city and international financial services center, established in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It was established in 2015. GIFT City has financially standardized globally financial services infrastructure and business operations. It will have superior institutions such as two international stock exchanges, banks, fintech firms, and the nation’s first international bullion exchange. The city will be developed in such a manner so as to lure local and foreign investments by spurring some tax advantages and regulatory advantages.

Construction of the new campus of IIFT at GIFT City is yet another step in the direction of the government’s vision of linking industry requirements with education, here finance and trade sectors. The project will expose students right from the outset to a vibrant business environment, fostering experiential learning experiences and industry-academic collaborations. It should help to go a good distance towards creating a talent pool of professionals who will be in a position to deal with the demands of global trade.
