Key Background
The West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP) has announced the merit list for the UG admission to the 2025–26 session. This marks the start of the centralised seat allotment process for West Bengal colleges, and the UG admission process is a one-window scheme. In opting for the merit system, the council brings the seats in the college under the open and impartial scrutiny of a thousand or more students.
Merit list has been prepared based on Class 12 or equivalent board exam performance of the candidates. Already registered candidates who have uploaded required academic documents can now verify allotment status from the portal by logging in using their registered credentials. Not just the college name to which the candidate has been allocated but the very course being provided to the candidate is shown by the system, both merit-wise and availability-wise.
The instant a seat is allocated to a candidate, the second and significant step is the payment of the acceptance fee online through multiple media such as Net Banking, Debit/Credit cards, UPI, or QR code. After successful payment, the students must download the provisional allotment letter and prepare for offline document verification at the college that has been allotted. The process must be completed within the time limit, otherwise, the seat will be lost.
For the guidance of the students in this aspect, a helpline has been activated and an official mail for technical or admission queries. The candidates are asked to log on to the WBCAP portal from time to time for updates, timelines, and guidelines so as not to miss out on crucial deadlines. This centralization is not sought only to foster efficiency but also to provide equal opportunity in admissions in higher education in the state.
