Within the same year, the city has been selected to host the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, the Asian Aquatics Championship, and the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

The sporting calendar begins with the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, to be organised at the Naranpura Sports Complex from August 24 to 30. The tournament is expected to draw more than 350 athletes from 29 nations, making it one of the largest weightlifting championships ever held in the country.

In September-October, Ahmedabad will welcome top swimmers from across Asia for the Asian Aquatics Championship. Competitors from leading sporting nations, including China, Japan, and South Korea, are scheduled to participate in the meet.

Later, from November 22 to 30, the city will host Group D fixtures of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers at The Arena by TransStadia. India, Chinese Taipei, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran will field teams to compete for places in the main tournament.

Ahmedabad’s international commitments will continue in the following years. The Asian Weightlifting Championship and the Archery Asia Para Cup – World Ranking Tournament are scheduled in 2026, while the World Police and Fire Games 2029 will take place across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar (Kevadia).

The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in India, with Ahmedabad becoming one of the leading sporting cities in the globe by hosting this event in 2030.

Officials stated that the investment of Gujarat in state-of-the-art stadiums, training supports, and its Sports Policy 2022-27 has positioned the state to host global events and firmly establish its stature of being a multi-sport destination.
